Start with the job you need the equipment to do.
Solar: a generation conversation.
Begin with electricity use, the property and future loads. Share recent bills and any plans for a heat pump or EV so the solar discussion reflects the way your home may change.
Storage: a priorities conversation.
Explain whether your interest is storing energy, supporting equipment during an outage, or both. Compatibility, configuration and the loads you want supported belong in the scope discussion.
Generator: a backup conversation.
Bring a list of essential equipment and information about possible placement and fuel arrangements. Compare the proposed backup capability and installation work with your priorities.
Ask about operation during an outage.
Have the proposed design explain what will operate during an outage and under what conditions. Do not assume a solar array alone provides backup or that every battery configuration supports the same loads.
